AREA 4bs VISIT TO LEADENHAM POLO CLUB
On Saturday 24th July eight of the older members met at Leadenham Polo Club for a training session subsidised by the Area. Firstly the girls were taken with their parents to watch a chukka on video. They were then all, in turn, put on a wooden "horse" and taught how to hold the polo stick and how to swing it with a view to hitting a ball!. Whilst this was happening the parents were given a very large jug of Pimms to share!
It was then onto the ponies to practice what they had learnt. They paired up and attempted to hit the ball whilst on the move. Not easy! The final part of the lesson involved a practice chukka where goals were actually scored but the pace was not full on!
Everyone enjoyed the session and the mums are now keen to have a go themselves. So hopefully another outing to Leadenham will be arranged for the Junior members and their parents.
I hope that there will soon be some photographs on the web-site to show what fun it was.
2010 YOUNG STEWARDS COMPETITION
We put Alice Barker forward for this competition. The standard of entries was very high and therefore difficult to judge. All applicants received a Janet Jenkinson cartoon and an official Young Steward’s badge. We are very proud of Alice and are grateful to her for all the hard work she does for the Area. On top of all she does for the Area, Alice stewarded for three days at the Summer Championships last year.
Alice was invited to be “rosette” girl at the Winter Championships Show during the Saturday night performance. She looked very professional and we are so pleased to be able to say that she is an Area 4B member.
Well done Alice.
AREA 4b WINTER SHOW 2010
We are rarely lucky with the weather at any of our shows, but on the 21st March the temperature had risen and the sun shone. The day started at 8a.m. and ended at 8p.m!
Perhaps not a rare event for some shows but for 4B it was a mega day.
The morning was devoted to W.H.P.s and the entries in most classes were beyond expectation. 4B members supported the show in numbers. It was great to see Lucinda Parkes on her new 153cms WHP going Champion. Please look at the results to see how all the members did. In the afternoon we had the flat classes with members once again gaining good results.
The facilities at Laughton Manor are good with excellent parking, which did at times become a little congested! The cafeteria serves good value food and was busy all day long. The surfaces on all three schools ride well, which the ponies seemed to appreciate.
I must commend all the competitors for their patience during the day - 'not before' times next year will be later!!
Grateful thanks to our three judges who did sterling work; they all commented on the quality of ponies forward.
